Message from the Club President

On behalf of the Rotary Club of Woodside/Portola Valley, we would like to thank you for being with us and making the 12th annual Taste of Woodside a huge success.

The event grossed over $50,000, the most ever! These dollars go directly to the support of our projects both locally and internationally. In addition, our "sign a $20 bill" drawing was a best ever, too! The initial dollars totalled $860. The owner of the winning "bill" got a half case of Montelena Vineyards wine. This year, the money went toward funding college scholarships in Nicaragua. Thank you all for your incredible generosity. We hope to see you at our 13th Taste of Woodside on September 11, 2016!

Rotary's top goal is to eradicate polio worldwide.  In collaboration with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and national governments, is close to eliminating the second human disease in history after smallpox with a 99% reduction in polio cases worldwide since 1985.  Rotary members have contributed more than one billion dollars and countless volunteer hours to help immunize more than two billion children in 122 countries.

Rotary is on the forefront of tackling major humanitarian issues facing the world today.  Maternal and child health, clean water and sanitation, literacy, and disease prevention and treatment are among Rotary's top areas of focus

Rotary's Peace Centers program offers graduate degrees and professional development certificates in peace studies to more than 110 applicants each year at seven campus-based centers worldwide (with one at Berkeley).  Today, more than 600 Peace Fellows are in key, decision-making positions in governments and organizations around the world.

But, without your financial support, we are powerless to make good things happen.  The funds so critical to the success of all our projects come from this one event - The Taste of Woodside.  Over the past 12 years, with proceeds from the Taste of Woodside, the Rotary Club of Woodside/Portola Valley has provided almost $500,000 to support book scholarships to graduating seniors, holiday food baskets for single teen mothers, veterans projects, 3rd grade dictionaries, Rebuilding Together Peninsula, City Trees (Redwood City), St. Francis Center food/toys/New Voices for Youth.  Our international projects in Morocco, Guatemala, Ramallah, Nepal, Bali, Nicaraqua, Ecuador and Baja cover literacy, education, clean water, women's health and microcredit lending.

We invite you to join us for breakfast one Wednesday in the near future to hear interesting speakers, to enjoy stimulating fellowship and to become a part of this movement of global understanding.  For more information about Rotary International, please visit www.Rotary.org or visit our club website at www.WPVRotary,.org.  We hope to see you at breakfast at 7:30 AM any Wednesday, in the social hall of Woodside Village Church, 3154 Woodside Road in Woodside.
