Last Week's Program: (courtesy of Last Week Editor, Dean Babcock) Allen Cary introduced Paul Giacomantonio to speak about his work with INKA Farms. Paul was born in Yonkers, New York. He went to school in Gabon, Africa where he became an Eco-system designer. He has lived in Loma Prieta and San Gregorio the last 18 years. He has been involved in gardening for 35 years. He started in Africa with a rain forest project, he drilled wells and built water falls and fish ponds. He learned to build gardens in very small places and conceived the idea of portable gardens. He formed INKA and designed the logo, “Live in the biosphere, without killing it.” He is often asked “What do you do here?” He teaches healthy living and economic structure. He designed the “Trellis Garden” and people said “I want that!” He has built them for schools, people with sailboats and for micro-farming. One of his gardens is at Coyote Point Museum. He designed and is patenting the Bio-Quilt, a sandwich of two sheets of plastic with a plastic mesh in between. His gardens consist of a piece of the quilt suspended in a frame, with ancillary pump and filters. The water source can be a fishpond or gray water. For more information go to www.inka.fm or call Paul at 650-619-2241.
