7:30 AM - 8:30 AM Wednesday with breakfast by Encore Performance Catering, fellowship, project updates and an interesting speaker from the community.  Guild Hall, Woodside Village Church, 3154 Woodside Road, Woodside, California  Guests are not only welcome but encouraged!

This Week's Program:   Citizen Holdship

Our own Alan Holdship will give his new member introduction combined with tales of the process of becoming a US citizen.

Last  Week's Program:   (courtesy of Last Week Editor, Dean Babcock)  President David Hyman introduced Lee Michelson, CEO of the Sequoia Healthcare District.  Lee gave us some local history from 1946 when there was no community hospital in the southern part of San Mateo County.  Citizens from Belmont to Portola Valley and from Skyline to the Bay voted to establish the Sequoia Hospital District.  The new hospital opened in 1950 on Alameda de la Pulgas and Whipple and provides a first class facility that has continued to grow in size and capability. Management of the hospital was taken over by Catholic Hospitals West in 1997.  As of 2007 CHW now owns the hospital.  Sequoia Healthcare District provides Community Grants to provide financial support  for health programs for low income seniors, the disabled, children and youth groups.  SHD also provides financial support for Samaritan House and clinics in the Fair Oaks and Willow Road districts.  The Healthcare District has joined with Canada College, SF State Universitty and Sequoia Hospital to provide nurses training for our communities.

Next Week's Program:   San Mateo Community College Tom Moore from the San Mateo Community College will talk about new programs that the school has recently incorporated and also how the success rates of these programs.

Club News:   The Bennetts have left Bali and headed the other way around to a wedding in Italy.  They spent a couple of weeks in India and Nepal and even got to stay in the Lake Palace (in a lake) which is now a Taj Hotel.  Any day now they might find their way back to the US of A.

Recent international projects approved and funded include outfitting a school room in Bali, a scholarship for our Peace Fellow candidate, internet access for the Riecken Foundation library in Xolsacmalja, Guatemala and funds to re-open another library in their network that has been closed due to lack of funding.
