This Week's Program:

Melissa Reed will speak to us about The Energy Diet.

Last  Week's Program:

Jim Sanderson introduced Kristen Kosinski, Bob Falkenburg and Lucas Lekwale to speak to us about their water project in the Samburu region of Kenya.  Kristen taught elementary school in Houston and Los Angeles. She was an executive at Paramount Network TV before she founded the Samburu project in 2005.  She is the executive director and supervises all activities in Kenya and the US.  Bob Falkenburg has lived in Woodside for 30 years.  He graduated from Univ. of Colorado and was an investment banker before joining the Samburu project.  Lucas Lekwale is a native of Kenya and has been the onsite manager of the project since its inception in 2006.

The project has raised over $400,000 and has drilled more than  22 wells bring water to thousands of Kenyans.  Their challenges continue to grow since the drought has intensified and threatens animals that normally can find water.  The water table has dropped dangerously and now wells have to be drilled more than 75 meters deep.  The Kenyans have had to slaughter their cattle and pigs and are in danger of starving.  Much of the water they can find is polluted and there is a lack of purification equipment and supplies.  The Samburu project has trained hundreds of Kenyans to manage the wells.  They are also looking for organizations like Rotary that can help them.  Further information is available at www.thesamburuproject.org and Kristen may be reached at Kristen@thesamburuproject.org.

Next Week's Program:

Jim Sanderson will give his ice-breaker speech and share with us some of his ideas for marketing our club.
