Last Week's Program: (courtesy of Last Week Editor, Dean Babcock)
Newsletter Editor Joan Fuetsch introduced Dr.Marilyn Butler to speak to us about her proposed website to coordinate volunteer medical workers in third world countries, specifically pediatric surgeons. Dr. Butler is from Texas, trained at Columbia and now is Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Stanford. Dr. Butler’s specialty is pediatric surgery and she is putting together an organization to coordinate volunteers, a global pediatric surgery network. She lives in Woodside and practices at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Butler has traveled to many countries and met many surgeon volunteers. Her proposed website will be a clearing house to refer those looking for help or further training to find other volunteer surgeons or mentors. Dr. Butler plans to spread the word at the forthcoming world meeting of the World Congress of Pediatric Surgeons in Delhi, India among a number of other academic gatherings.
She plans to have her web site up in 2010, until then you can reach her at 650-799-0455.
Next Week's Program: Is Plastic Surgery for You? President Dave Hyman will introduce Dr. Rosenfield, an area plastic surgeon who will discuss the benefits of tinkering with Mother Nature.
Club News: Your regular editor is taking a five week break while traveling the world looking out, of course, for new projects. Dean Babcock has volunteered to do the newsletter in the meantime.
