This Week's Program: Pediatric Surgeons Willing to Travel and Work

Currently, there is no good "connection point" specifically for kids.

President David Hyman introduced Patricia (aka Trish) Crawley to speak to us about her experience as a RI Ambassadorial Scholar. Trish was born in the south and graduated from Wake Forest in Winston Salem, NC in 2007. She worked in a start-up company as a writer-editor but had thoughts about her future and where she wanted to go. A friend suggested she should apply for a RI scholarship and offered to be a mentor.
The RI Ambassadorial Scholarship was founded in 1947. Nearly 38,000 have been granted. It is the world's largest privately funded international scholarship program. Recipients from about 70 countries have studied in more than 70 nations. The purpose of the program is to promote understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries and geographical areas.
Trish went to Florence, Italy for her ambassadorial year. She decided she would learn as much about Florence and make as many Italian friends as she could. Trish knows five languages – that helped. She did a lot of walking, drank a lot of wine and mapped out all the ice cream stores in town. In so doing she absorbed a great deal of the local culture and felt like she had reallly accomplished something worthwhile. Returning to the U.S. she decided she wanted to work in a non profit organization. She found her approach in communicating with prospective organizations was much more mature and focussed
If you have something to share with her, contact Trish at 510-381-5680 or at crawpl3@gmail.com.
