Pres. David Hyman introduced “never been president” Ken Hayes to do a “show and tell” of his family’s recent trip to Italy.  Ken spent a year in Italy absorbing architectural ideas in his younger years.  He was accompanied by Kathy, Mason and Vanessa whom he hoped would also be inspired by the Italian culture.

They flew to Naples and spent some time sightseeing and arrived at the Amalfi peninsula by boat.  Amalfi is a pre-Roman town and climbs from the sea up the steep mountain sides to about 2000 feet in elevation. They explored the coast and then took a boat to the Isle of Capri.  The crush of tourists there caused them to shorten their stay and they returned to Amalfi.

They wanted to visit the beach area of Amalfi but the road along the beach was not suitable for walking, too many curves and too many fast Italian drivers!  The major-domo of their hotel showed them a narrow alleyway  which led them to a stairway that brought them directly to the beach.  Ken and Kathy took lots of stunning photographs and now we all want to go to Amalfi!

Patricia Crawley-Rotary Cultural Ambassadorial Scholar will discuss her three months in Florence Italy.
