Regular Meeting                                                                                         July 8th, 2009

7:30 AM - 8:30 AM Wednesday with breakfast by Encore Performance Catering, fellowship, project updates and an interesting speaker from the community.  The last Wednesday of some months we will meet at 6:00pm at a local restaurant for hors d'oeuvres, a no host bar and meeting new people.  Please check our website calendar for details.

Morning meetings:  Guild Hall, Woodside Village Church, 3154 Woodside Road, Woodside, California  Guests are not only welcome but encouraged!

This Week's Program:  How Things are Going at the Woodside Village Church  Barry Wilbanks has agreed to give a talk on the current status of the church.  Barry is a Realtor with Coldwell Banker specializing in the marketing and sales of church properties and he is also the

Co-Moderator of Woodside Village Church, ex-officio member of the Finance Board, member of the Endowment Committee, and an Ordained Minister

Last  Week's Program:  (courtesy of Last Week Editor, Dean Babcock)  New President David Hyman’s inauguration bash was complete with biscotti and Mimosas.  How’s that for change!

Ken Broome gave a brief report on the Rotary International convention in Birmingham, England. There were 12,000 Rotarians there.  R.I. President Kenny, the first from Scotland, said “The future is in your hands.”  Rotary operates at the grass-roots level and every member is important.  Speakers at the convention included Mia Farrow and world famous anthropologist, Jane Goodall.

Ken reports that there was a paper presented on a new water purification system that consists of a plastic bottle that is suspended in sunlight for 6 to 8 hours.  Another paper told how a group of European clubs taught Africans how to develop their own infrastructure.  Ken promises a more extensive report when he receives the materials from RI.

David Hyman gave us a summary of changes that will happen under his regime: meetings will start at 7:25 am.   Dave will be in charge of arranging for speakers.  Please send him your suggestions.

Next Week's Program:   The Bennetts on Bali

Sue and Don Bennett are back from Bali and will talk about their life and Rotary work there.  They will also show a short video.

Club NewsIt seems that most members are unaware of the fact that there is a member directory available on our club website.  It is only visible to members and each of you need to log on to the website and complete your information including, if you like, a link to your business and/or autobiographical information.  The website address is:  www.wpvrotary.org and you need only your email address and the password that was once sent to you from the website.  If you need the webmaster to re-send you a password (which she does not have access to) please let her know.  We number 18 at the moment and many of you are lacking phone numbers, business information, etc.
