This Week's Program:  More Bridges in Nepal Ken Broome will introduce

Nepal Rotarian, David Sowerwine, will give us an update on new bridges being built in Nepal.

Last  Week's Program:  (courtesy of Last Week Editor, Dean Babcock)

International Service chair Ken Broome introduced his friend, neighbor and our newest member Jim Sanderson.  Jim told us of his adventure – picking up his Kawasaki motorcycle with side car in San Antonio, TX and driving it to California.

Jim was born in Mineola, NY and graduated from college in Jacksonville, FL with a degree in psychology.  He is the owner of Sanderson Studios and dabbles in advertising when not on the road in his cycle.  He worried that his life was going wrong when his dog, “Lucky”, hung himself 8.years ago.  He got another nudge when he and his Porsche ended up under the trailer of a semi on Woodside Road.  He lost a son and his daughter was diagnosed with juvenile leukemia. But he told himself “When bad things happen, you have to keep going.”

When Jim found an ad for his dream vehicle he bought a round trip ticket (He is a real conservative guy!) and flew to San Antone.  He made the trip home into a family affair by visiting relatives along the way and having his family join him for special events. He especially enjoyed experiencing the intimate details of desert life including cactus in Tumacacori, Motel 8’s and an inquisitive humming bird.  He capped the fun trip by parading his cycle at the Pancake Breakfast with his daughter in the side car.  As the 75 year old lady told Jim, “It sure is good to see a guy having so much fun!”

Next Week's Program:  Guatemalan Library Project Done!

Past-President and Wandering Newsletter Editor, Joan Fuetsch, will show photos and discuss the recent opening of the rural community library in Xolsacmalja, Sacatapequez, Guatemala.  Our club made a significant contribution to this library and learning center that was a five year dream of the indigenous villagers.  The first person to pronounce the location of the library correctly will receive a 1lb bag of the world's best coffee.  Said coffee will be for sale for $10 a pound.  Proceeds go to support the libraries.  Great coffee is a good alternative to a bottle of wine as a gift and also goes well with Girl Scout cookies.

Club NewsThe end of the Rotary year is almost upon us.  Have you made your Foundation contribution?  Paul Harris?  In a couple of weeks we will be welcoming a new team.  Please put Sandie's kickout party as below on your calendar.
