Last  Week's Program:   (courtesy of Last Week Editor, Dean Babcock)

President–elect David Hyman introduced Jan Sweyer to tell us her “life story” and how she and her brother Mark got into business with the Woodside Bakery and Café.  Jan was born in San Francisco and her family has lived in Woodside for 50 years.

Jan worked in Silicon Valley until it got to be too much for her. She found she was getting to be an “unpleasant personality.”  So she quit cold turkey and went to Mexico.   There she found a nice property, 3 hours south of Puerta Vallarta with a beautiful beach.  She thought it would be a likely place to build a restaurant.  Next thing she knew, she bought the run-down restaurant right next door.  She did a thorough renovation, built a docking area for the boaters and the place took off.

She and Mark established a sea food restaurant in Burlingame, like the Fishmarket, with a crab pot outside and “got their feet wet.” They opened a night club restaurant in Cupertino. She says “Once you get in the restaurant business, you can’t quit!” They bought the Bakery and Café and are in the process of renovating it.  The eatery is 98% done and they will soon start on the bakery side. They will be serving breakfast 7 days a week. They are planning a summer music series - reservations only – on Sundays, once a month. The first show will feature Jazz Legends, composed of big-band offsprings.  They will feature the music of Cole  Porter, Ella Fizgerald and like genre. They may even present some opera – ala the The Little Store!

Next Week's Program:  May 19th Special Election

Ken Broome will introduce a speaker from the League of Women Voters who will talk about the upcoming election issues.

Club NewsA reminder from your editor.  A blank newsletter is very uninteresting so please send items of interest PRIOR to publication.  Sandie reports that the Pancake Breakfast was a great success despite a few drops of rain and the collapse of the coffee table.  The family of Larry Wenrick were all there to help out as well.  Thanks to all who participated.
