This Week's Program: Multi-Generational Living
Sharon Graham Niederhaus has co-authored a book with her brother John L. Graham titled Together Again: A Creative Guide to Successful Multigenerational Living. Directed at baby boomers and their adult children, it is about the changing culture of America and the trend for three generations to live together again.
Last Week's Program: (courtesy of Last Week Editor, Dean Babcokck) President elect David Hyman introduced Kerry Lobel Executive Director of Puente de la Costa Sur. Kerry is a product of the San Fernando Valley and a graduate of UCLA. She has a history as a community organizer and charity leader. The coast and south San Mateo County has an assortment of small towns separated by vast areas of woods and undeveloped parks. It encompasses 90% of the land mass and only 1% of the population. The people of the south coast have settled here to find a home close to the land and away from the urban pressure. Many are immigrants and struggle for subsistence and shelter. Puentes was founded over a decade ago by Wendy Taylor in order to give them opportunities to develop and acquire the new skills needed here to be self sufficient. Classes are offered in English as a second language, citizenship, literacy, GED tutoring and computer skills. Puente is also a prime source for physical and mental health care. Puente distributes many tons of food in conjunction with Second Harvest Food Bank. They also supply clothing for children and needy adults. Puente is supported by foundations, San Mateo County, churches and synagogues and Rotary clubs and other charitable groups. For more information contact Kerry at klobel@mypuente.org.
Next Week's Program: An Insider's View of the Banking Crisis
Woodside Wells Fargo branch manager, Zlata Rabinovich, will discuss the current banking situation from Wells Fargo's perspective and answer questions.

Club News: Charlie (AKA Carlito), our scholarship recipient in Guatemala, is struggling a bit in his return to school after a year's absence. His first set of grades after two months of the third grade in a private school, were a disappointment but he has promised to work harder and Estela and her children are all helping to bring him up to speed. He has having to overcome the transition from a sub-standard government school to a private school after missing a year and no encouragement from his own family. Interestingly his highest grade of 71 was in English, higher than that of his indigenous language of Kachikel. He did read quite well from a gift of Charlie y la Fabrica de Chocolate.
