Regular Meeting March 18th, 2009
7:30 AM - 8:30 AM Wednesday with breakfast by Encore Performance Catering, fellowship, project updates and an interesting speaker from the community. The last Wednesday of each month we meet at 5:30pm at a local restaurant for wine and hors d'oeuvres along with a speaker of interest. Please check our website calendar for details.
Morning meetings: Guild Hall, Woodside Village Church, 3154 Woodside Road, Woodside, California Guests are not only welcome but encouraged!
This Week's Program: Build Peace Our newest member, Frank Klein, will introduce his friend, Dianne, who is a Woodside resident, filmmaker and involved with www.buildpeace.com.
Last Week's Program: (courtesy of Last Week Editor, Dean Babcock) In place of a speaker President-Elect, Dave Hyman, took charge of the meeting. Since he needed no introduction, he didn’t get one. Dave started by thanking Bill Alfano for his service as Treasurer of the club foundation. Bill said he looked forward to more overseas projects and more members to carry them out. Dave then proceeded around the room, thanking members for their service and getting suggestions. Next was Allen Cary for his fundraising abilities. Allen looks for more than 20 members and appreciates the comradery. Ken Broome for his International leadership. Ken especially liked the opportunities to visit Oaxaca and La Paz. Barbara Schmidt for her many terms as president and other duties. Barbara said the club was like an extension to her family. Sandie Pugh, in absentia, for her gracious hosting of club parties. Bob Buelteman for getting things ready every Wednesday. Bob hopes we can do more projects at home, as for immigrants. Art Barker for his time with “the books.” Art is looking forward to more members. Ken Hayes for efforts to make the Taste of Woodside a success. Ken loves to come to meetings and likes to see the tables full. Frank Kline our newest member, a very welcome addition. Frank finds our club refreshing after belonging to a large club in Chowchilla. Todd Moore, in absentia, for work on organizing speakers. Dean Babcock for always having something to say. Dean expressed appreciation for a great group of friends. No mention was made of the club's beleaguered newsletter editor and webmaster who was unable to attend the meeting having sustained a fractured vertebrae during an unscheduled dismount from her horse. David signed off by expressing his excitement about his presidential year and the future of our club.
Next Week's Program: Evening Social Event in lieu of regular morning meeting. Bring family and guests including potential members to the Woodside Bakery and Cafe at 6pm for appetizers and a no host bar. Please email Dave Hyman at dave@epcatering.com if you are bringing family members and/or guests so that we have enough food available. Ken Broome has offered to share informally his experience at the Rotary/UN Peace Building Symposium in San Francisco last weekend.
