This Week's Program:   Clinical Drug Trials, Do You Want to Participate?

Doris Davis will discuss the pros and cons of clinical drug trials and what you can expect if you participate in one.  Volunteers are needed after this meeting to hand out dictionaries and take digital photos for our website.

Last  Week's Program:   (courtesy of Last Week Editor, Dean Babcock) President Sandie Pugh introduced Karen Arimoto-Peterson, Community Affairs Specialist at Woodside Elementary School (WES).  Karen is a fourth generation American, her mother was the first Japanese woman born in Redwood City.  Karen started as a substitute teacher at WES in 1970 and two years later became a full-time teacher in history and social studies, up to the eighth grade.  In the early 1990’s she was the Dean of Students.
Karen serves on the board of the Woodside High School (WHS) where she graduated in 1964.  She also serves on the boards of the WHS Foundation and Athletic Boosters as well as other committees. Karen recently joined the San Mateo County Historical Society where she is very involved in developing the Japanese history section.
Karen’s other activities in support of the Woodside community and its schools are too many to enumerate.  This super-powered volunteer expresses her philosophy succinctly “It’s for the kids. So many people need so many things that everyone needs to take time to help.”

Next Week's Program:   Progress in Nepal

Rotarian, David Sowerwine, will update us on his work in Nepal.  As you may remember David build bridges that allow access to education and work for the rural Nepalese.  He has also developed a pedal power LED light that provides home lighting.
