This Week's Program:   Club Assembly/Membership Drive  This last meeting of the year 2008 will be devoted to a discussion of how to proceed with a membership drive early in 2009.  Please bring your ideas.

Last  Week's Program:   Sue Bennet introduced her friend Neelam Noorani who is a classmate of her daughter's. Neelam is an international rights scholar at the court set up by the U.N. to prosecute those responsible for the heinous crimes committed in Sierra Leone, West Africa.  She lived there for two years and witnessed many acts of violence.
Sierra Leone is a former British colony of staggering beauty with mountains rising to 6,000 feet.  Their main sources of income are agriculture and diamonds. Freetown is the capital with a population of about 150,000. Sierra Leone is the poorest country in the world and there is a life expectancy of 40 years. It is filled with corruption, with military road blocks and secret police. They had their first independent election recently.  When the results were announced Neelam heard a resounding roar of joy from the crowd in Freetown.  Hopefully under U.N. surveillance they will have a better future with education and reduced corruption.
The country is currently being helped by Irish and British Rotary clubs which are working on electric power, hospitals, prosthetics, water storage and education.

Next Week's Program:   DARK & DARK!  Our next meeting will be January 7th, 2009

Club News:   Speaker Shortage To the knowledge of your newsletter editor and calendar keeper we do not yet have any speakers scheduled for 2009.  If every person brought in one speaker we could quickly cover several months.  I really hate blank newsletters.
