Last Week's Program:
Pres. Barbara Schmidt introduced Bob Buelteman’s lovely daughter to tell us about her career in the show business. Anne was born in Miami while Bob was flying Pan American Airways clippers to South America. Anne told us about “Opera without Tears” a one woman show she did. She then launched into her tales of “Les Miserables, the Musical”. She toured with this show for eleven years as it circled the country – and then did It again!
The history of “Les Mis” starts in 1980 in Paris, then London’s West End, Broadway and then 3 U.S. tours. It then goes on a UK tour, then to Buenos Aires and Mexico City. Then a Broadway revival, a 25th anniversary tour and is still playing in venues around the world. To give an idea of the size of the production; It had a cast and staff of 75 persons and the scenery and production equipment filled 9 semi-truck trailers. It received the Tony Award for best musical, the Tony Award for Best Book and the overall Tony Award
Anne then told us of the work on her novel. It is based on her experiences in the “Les Mis” tour. The tentative title is “Road Kill – tales of a certain city.” She has been working on it for quite some time now – it is up to 700 pages. She has 2 agents, both of whom want to read it – when she cuts it down to 250 pages. She is now at the stage where she has to cut her baby into pieces and decide which pieces to keep, and more painfully, which pieces to put into the round file. Good Luck Anne, no birth is painless!
Next Week's Program:
What you should know about First Aid.
A representative of the Woodside Fire Protection District will show us the First Aid procedures we should know so that we may assist our family or neighbors in an emergency.
